PMDG 777, 737, Airbus X A320/321 stable 30 fps guide

fsx.cfg updated 09-20-2013

it runs stable on my machine (I7 3770k at 4.7 GHz, H100Watercooling, Geforce Titan). but please!!! don't just copy and paste the fsx.cfg. My graphics card is different from yours. My screen is different. So use the values please, but don't copy the whole thing and wonder why your fsx doesn't work anymore. thx

what you should have to run fsx smooth with 30 fps:
I7/I5 at 4.5 GHz or above
nvidia gtx 670 or above
fsx on SSD
Remember to save standard flight as an original aircraft from fsx, no addon. it´s important!!! bufferpool=1 is perfect for fast hardware. Don´t believe anything else! FTX Global is installed as well as REX ess.OD and Mytraffic X Professional with 30 % traffic. Save fsx.cfg and make a backup before trying my settings. Remember to turn hyperthreading off in the bios. Set to use only 3 cores there as well.

My FSX is installed on a separate SSD. Windows 7 has a SSD of its own.

Don´t go and boost GPU CLock together with memory clock. Choose only one of them! Test it out which one you prefer. For me it works best with GPU Clock Boost.

Of importance:
 vsync 1/2 rate, "Anisotropic Filtering setting" can be lower than expected, as well as "AA Transparency Supersampling" and "Texture Filtering Quality". Don´t make the mistake to believe that the highest settings bring the best results. It´s the flow of all that makes it work. Mouse over in VC makes fps drop 3-5 fps. be aware and use wisely. In the vc of the 777 pmdg go to the fmc and in the airplanes performance setup use 15 fps for all the instruments. brings another fps gain and you cannot see much difference.If you want you can turn off the First Officers screens as well.

fsx.cfg: -->
notice that trees and buildings per cell are manually set to 250/350. It´s not a jungle with those settings but it gives you a good 3d impression and since i fly IFR mostly, it only can be seen at TOGA or APP. You can easily rise those figures.

Bufferpool is on 1. This setting is only for fast rigs. But if you have one, use Bufferpools/Usepools =1. It helps alot.

AffinityMask is set to 14 cause i turned of Hyperthreading in the bios and set the active cores to three.

Texture-Max_Load is set to 2048. Any higher setting is not worth the try cause you can hardly see any difference.

HIGHMEMFIX=1 is standard.

LOD_RADIUS=6.500000 cause i fly IFR. can be 4.5 if you fly VFR

All those settings fit to my needs: Much detail at airports, traffic at the gates, stable and high fps at taxiing, takeoff and landing. I don´t need photorealistic HD tiles in 4096 and 1m mesh cause i fly high and fast. my focus is on the plane itself, not the scenery in the first place. But with these settings it looks beautiful as well and i can enjoy a view outside without any drop in fps.

hope you like it

use only to note the figures set! don´t copy and paste. modify your own fsx.cfg and try it out. make a backup of your fsx.cfg before you tweak!

[BUFFERPOOLS]
UsePools=1 fast hardware can use Bufferpools!
PoolSize:8388608 that´s the double of the standard value

SmallPartRejectRadius=1 that is the lowest you can go.it costs fps. but this way objects are drawn if they only have one pixel. So i can see objects from far away and the popping-up of buildings and trees is low. go for 2 or 4 if "1" doesn´t work well for you.

  1. I really appreciate you posting your .cfg. Thanks!!!

  2. If you only fly PMDG please try COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=0. On my machine it was an increase of at least 10% in FPS!!!
    Found it today with a little bit of luck!

    1. Hi there, which section would I put this under? [DISPLAY], or graphics or what?

  3. Hey, thankyou to the person above. My fps was improved vastly in the pmdg 777!

  4. Also a great big thanx from my side especially the "move mouse out of VC" and I can't think/remember that I've seen this ever before and you're right +4-6fps

  5. thats asinine "in order for fsx to run smoothly you need to have a intel 4.5ghz or higher cpu" i call BS and not every one can afford a 4.5ghz cpu
